Western Diet Promotes Heart Attacks

According to a global study of dietary patterns, the best diet for clogging the arteries and promoting heart attacks is the “Western” style of eating. The INTERHEART study looked at 5,761 heart attack cases (taken from subjects in fifty-two countries) and compared the diet of those individuals with the diet of 10,646 people without known heart disease (control group). The researchers concluded that 30 percent of the risk of heart disease was related to a “poor diet,” what they termed a Western style of eating, defined as higher intake of fried foods, salty snacks, eggs, and meat. On closer examination of the dietary risk score, a higher score (a higher score meant a poorer diet) was associated with as much as a 92 percent increase in risk of having a heart attack. It is well known that what you eat and your level of physical activity have a major impact on your health. A poor diet greatly increases your risk of developing any number of chronic health conditions and diseases, including high blood pressure, obesity, diabetes, osteoporosis, several types of cancer, and heart disease. You are what you eat! Change to a Mediterranean Diet and lifestyle and start now to prevent disease and live a long, healthy and happy life.
